Let us Look: At Glee...

Taking a new approach to the television premiere season this year. Only because many of the new shows (Trauma, Melrose Place, Hank, and Eastwick) just do not interest me. So this year, we will be looking at the shows that I am looking for. The list I made over the summer. Here is a refresher.

But now, here we are again, September. Television premieres ahoy. But as of now only Glee has premiered. Community will be tomorrow (Sept. 17) then Modern Family is the 23th (a Wednesday), and finally Flash Forward on Thursday the 24th. But let us look at Glee.

Glee

Now, tonight (Sept. 16th) is the third episode of Glee. And yes it is a good show. But even though it is a good show, it was not a perfect show in my opinion.

The Good:

This show has an amazing cast. Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, and Mathew Morrison each bring a personal quality to their characters. These actors are great, especially Jane and Jayma who have always seemed to make things better. There is great chemistry between each of these actors and actresses. Even the younger characters.

The formula is brilliant as well. Along with the main storyline about a man who wants to relive his high school days by bringing back the glee club, the minor story-lines bring a completely different view of the show. I like the minor story-lines better than the main one. With budding romances and over-baring partners, it keeps the blood flowing, just waiting to see what happens next.

The Bad:

It goes a little overboard with the music… Ok, I know it is a show about a high school glee club. There is going to be singing and dancing and all that. But 70 songs in the first 13 episodes? Really? Do we need that much music in a TV dramedy? Not unless it is an actual musical. Two or three songs per episode is enough. But five? Yeah, it is a little bit much for me.

So pretty simple there.  Glee is an ok show that I will keep watching. Well that or Modern Family since both will be on at the same time. Stay tuned for either tomorrow or Friday when I talk about Community.

“Angels” - Flight of the Conchords
Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Conchords return on Sunday January 18th and if you have not already you can catch the episode on FunnyorDie.com. But if not here it is below.

It was a good filler episode. It continues where the series left off a while back. I believe the first season ended in September of 2007. I am looking forward to the rest of the season though. Promotions for the new season of Flight of the Conchords has been airing on television that show even more potential than the premiere has shown. Now do not get me wrong

I guess this would be the start of the mid-season premieres right? Twelve or so articles based on the new and returning shows at this halfway mark. Probably. But i have yet to decide. I have already missed a few of the premieres. I watched the Scrubs premiere and the… well that is the only premiere i have watched. Not into 24 and ummm… Well what else has premiered. I believe those have been the only two. I guess i can start on this series of articles. Most of the shows that are new are reality shows and I do not watch those. Mamma’s Boys and 13: Fear is Real? Come on… There is nothing premiering that I would really want to watch till March where I am anticipating the return of Reaper. We will see where this goes. So Friday my thoughts on the new season of Scrubs. Any other suggestions place it in the comments.

Remember the radio show returns tomorrow at its new time Thursdays from 4-6 in the afternoon on WUSC. Check it out. New things coming soon.

Last Premiere Story Promise, Till Lost Comes Back at Least

Well tonight is the night. The American Version of two foreign shows will be premiering tonight. First up at half past eight, we have Kath & Kim on NBC, then on ABC at ten o’clock is the premiere of Life on Mars. Life of Mars will be the final premiere for the blog. Both these shows were popular in their original countries. Kath & Kim in Australia, and Life on Mars in Britain. Now i do not know much about Kath & Kim in Australia because I really have not seen much Australian programing. All I know is that it is really popular.

Kath & Kim

Kath & Kim

Now the American version of Kath & Kim looks to be ok. Molly Shannon is great and has her own comedic style. It is like you know it is annoying but you still laugh and you still enjoy it. To me her character in this new television show is just another one of her characters on Saturday Night Live. Now for Selma Blair, I really do not know yet. She is playing that stupid girl that i have seen her do so many times before. This show is still up in the air. I have no clue on how this show will be. So let us chat about something that I actually have true knowledge on. Life on Mars.

original Life on Mars

Life on Mars (UK)

Now I actually watched the original version of Life on Mars. It stared John Simm who played The Master on the revived series of Doctor Who. It was because of his role on Doctor Who that I had decided to check out Life on Mars just to get a better idea on this Actor. So in the original Life on Mars, Sam Tyler (played by Simm) finds himself in 1973 Manchester after being struck by a car in the present day. Sam Tyler was a District Chief Inspector in the present where he was trying solve a series of murders. After his lover goes missing, he then is struck and goes to the past i already explained this part…. But in the past he meets his new boss Gene Hunt (Phillip Glenister) who is one of the most bad ass characters on television. British and American. He can kick your ass up the wall. He is defiantly the main focus of the show. The show’s major theme though is where is Sam Tyler? Is he in a coma in present day or is he really in 1973? The answer is somewhat revealed in the end but you will have to watch to find out for yourself.

Life on Mars US

Life on Mars (US)

Now that is what brings me to the American remake. Few things have changed. Instead of 1973 Manchester it takes place in 1973 New York and of course the casting has changed as well. Sam Tyler is now played by Jason O’Mara and Gene Hunt is played by Harvey Keitel. I have no problem with the remake but the only thing I am really uncertain is the casting of Keitel as Gene Hunt. Do not get me wrong Keitel is a fantastic actor but i just cannot see him as Hunt. From the previews it looks like he can kick doors down and be bad ass but i cannot see this small stature man pick up a guy and pin him against the wall for answers. I am still interested to see what the American remake will be like since the British version was just amazing. It is one of my favorite shows of all time. I will find out tonight to see how i feel about it. Here is the trailer if you want to catch a glimpse before tonight.

The Past Two Nights, Premieres Continue

Sunday Sunday Sunday, The night that is worth watching. Well it used to be the night to me. Do not get me wrong. It is still a good night for television. Fox has their animated shows, The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy. And ABC has, well, Desperate Housewives. So besides 60 Minutes, I guess there are somethings to watch on television.

Simpsons

Let us start out with The Simpsons then. This episode is what The Simpsons have been for years. Homer gets a new job, Marge tries and keeps her back in the day moralities, and the kids, well they are not in this episode much except for the beginning. Basically this episode was about Marge using her baking skills to a unconventional use, making porno cakes. Homer on the other hand, teams up with Flanders to become bounty hunters. This becomes acceptable until Homer’s tactics upset Flanders and he breaks it off. This leads Flanders needing to hunt down Homer for his past antics. Now the exciting thing about this episode is Homer’s confession that he has come to like Flanders over the years. Overall the episode was mediocre.

Family Guy

Family Guy came on that night as well and even though I have told myself that I hated the show, I have become pretty acquainted with the show. I have ended up watching so many episodes that it, like King of the Hill, is a show I love to hate. This episode shows the return of Loretta. The episode starts out with a depressed Brian, unhappy about every relationship not working out. Is it not obvious that he is a dog and every female he is interested is human? Of course it is, and sure it does not make sense but well did they not do this before. I guess the only difference is the story line is changed around to include Cleveland. I was really expecting this episode to revolve around Cleveland and his break into his spin-off. But sadly maybe that will be saved for another episode.

desperate housewives

Finally Sunday Night was the premiere of Desperate Housewives. The finale from last year seemed to push the move of the show five years into the future. Kids grow up, situations change, and Gabrielle Solis makes her fat daughter run after the car. Best part of the night. It was fun watching Eva Longoria-Parker drive off with her daughter on the series playing her game. It is a fantastic joke to play. Sigh… Well the rest of the episode is basically opening doors for the rest of the season. There was the other man who Susan is getting quite along with, Lynette and her trouble with her twins, Bree and Kathrine at it, and Bree loosing her grandson to her daughter. It was actually a pretty good finale with hopes for the remaining two seasons.

chuck

Now we get to Monday with the premiere of Chuck. Many of us had the chance to watch it one week before hand. Now this premiere was entertaining. It had suspense, it had romance, and of course action. The premiere was more than extraordinary and left us hanging. Does she love him, does she not. Will Chuck ever be free of all the responsibility and if he is going to be able to live after his purpose is served. We are led on in this episode that if Casey has the balls to kill the guy he has grown to like. Is this how the government would really react if this was a true story? Who really knows. But back to Chuck, we see him as a tragic hero. The audience will not know what happens to him in the future, where this program will take him and his relationship. Oh joy i am getting excited. This season in television programs are starting to look fantastic.

Best year ever? It should be good, that is all i can say

pushing daisies

But last night (Wednesday) was the cherry on the ice cream. Pushing Daisies came back on the air for their new season. So many secrets moving around. The great thing about this season premiere is that they made up for not having a new episode since February. The intro itself also helped new viewers get into the show, it explained the condition of Chuck and Ned, what Ned does, and how Olive is dealing with it all. Olive is has a secret for everyone. Chuck’s real mother is her aunt, Olive is holding her feelings back for Ned, and Olive believes that Chuck has faked her own death. In this episode, these secrets build up on Olive forcing her to a nunnery where she will be for a while. The other three, Emerson, Ned, and Chuck end up solving the murder of a bee’s honey spokesperson. Chuck ends up working for the company making Ned feel like she is trying to get her distance. The best part of the show had to be a reference to Dead Like Me, Ned uses the Happy Time Temp Agency to get an assistants job. It was an amazing feeling to hear an old reference from another Bryan Fuller show. Now if they could only sneak in a Wonderfalls reference. I see great things for this show in the future.

One more week of premieres. It feels good to end this multi-part series with Life on Mars which premieres on Thursday October 9th.

Full week of Premieres

Ah this has been a fantastic week starting with the Emmys. Well the Emmys were ok. Let us see what i can remember from this week though. Remember this may contain spoilers if you have not watched any of this yet.

Sunday September 21

emmy

The big thing was the Emmys of course. But it turned out not to be that big in the ratings. This was the 60th anniversary of the Emmy awards and I thought it was ok. The hosts were a little much and kept the show unfunny. Five reality competition hosts do not have a talent anywhere outside of reality shows. It was pointless and should have been reconsidered before hand. The winners and presenters were grand though. The quarrel between Ricky Gervias and Steve Carrell was brilliantly played. Just the seriousness of Carrell and the jabs given by Gervias on Carrell’s Evan Almighty, I loved it all. Tina Fey Won a lot of awards and she deserves it, her and 30 Rock both. Even though I have never actually sat down and watched Mad Men, I believe it was the right program to win as with John Adams, from what i had watched, it deserved the wins. From the actors and actresses chosen for thier awards, just fantastic. Bryan Cranston for lead actor in a Drama Series, It was the perfect win. I had my doubts that he would win but when he did I was surprised. Sure my roomies did not get it but they have not seen the series so they do not understand. Sure Hugh Laurie could have won it but there was something with Cranston that makes him the right choice. With this year’s Emmys i feel a connection with these awards. That was Sunday and the start of ABC’s National Stay at Home Week, which will last longer than a week.

Monday September 22

So many TV shows, too many to watch. Mainly this week consisted of returning series. Monday was the return of Big Bang Theory. In this premiere episode, we start where we left off, Leonard and Penny are dating. Of course this brings on confusion between the two. Is Leonard too geeky, is Penny not smart enough. Well nothing is official between the two characters as of now which should keep this situation comedy full of situations. Oh Joy!

heroes

Heroes was next. Yeah it was good. It was the type of premiere that creates ideas that will run all season. The best way to discuss this is t go through the characters story-lines. Starting off with Sylar, he has his powers back and goes right for Claire firts opening up her brain and finding out how it works. Turns out he has never eaten the brains, just has removed them because he was in a hurry, but with Claire though he left it in and then sealed her back up. Now due to that Claire cannot feel anything and wonders if she is still human. Ali Larter’s character survived but is now a different person and not Nikki, Jessica, or that other girl. With this character though, she comes with the power to freeze through touch. Nathan Patrelli was shot by his brother who is from the future and sent the present version of himself into another body, a body of a villain. These villains are hardcore with powers lf fire  and all that other stuff. Nathan does survive the shooting as well, either his brother brings him back to life or it could be Linderman back from the dead who is in Nathan’s Head. Hiro has his own nemesis who can speed herself up and is cute. She speed up so that Hiro cannot stop her. She is a thief and stole half of the formula that Hiro’s father left  him to care for. Mohinder has hot hero sex with Maya after he injects himself with powers making him strong and charming but side effects seem to be coming on. I was expecting a Hulk out Moment. Ok this is getting too long. Shorten things up, What happened to the kids, Molly and Micah? Matt is in Africa or Australia, i was not paying attention. And that is all for Heroes.

Tuesday September 23

Only House came on, I did not pay much attention to anything else. What else came on Tuesday or what else will come on Tuesdays? I am really slacking…

Wednesday September 24

Really was there nothing that i watched till Thursday. I know this is my Film class night but i should have at least looked up what was on. I think CBS may have put on a couple of comedies like Gary Unmarried, which i have no clue what it is about. It may actually premiere next week. I probably will not watch. I have not been watching much television until…

Thursday September 25

…THURSDAY NIGHT COMEDY!!!!! NBC fantastic Must See Thursday returns. And It was fantastic starting with My Name is Earl. Earl is still the same show. The premiere had Seth Green playing a make a wish kid who had his wish ruined when Earl took his horse that he was supposed to ride throughout the town on New Years. Earl makes it up to him by accomplishing all his dreams in a movie that Green’s character wanted to make. It had a sad ending when you find out his character passes before watching the movie but Earl sees that everything that he wanted was accomplished. Now the second half was lacking. Same story where man wants revenge on his wife for cheating on him a couple of years ago. In this case it is Earl’s parents. In the end Earl’s dad finally cracks down and they both discuss feeling and how there was a correlation between him and his father. They both forgive the women who have done them wrong and the story will continue. It looks like this season may lack. Unlike all the other season premieres there is really nothing in this one that sticks out. Will something big happen will something move froward? I really have no clue what to think. Will it die off this season?

office

Now The Office is completely different. This premiere shows that this season will be different. Pam is off to New York for studies and Jim loves her. She has been replaced at the front desk by a woman we hardly even get to meet but then she is replaced by Ryan, starting from the bottom once again. This is the second episode that we get to see things over a weeks period of time. The first was the episode “Local Ad”. Now in this episode you get to see the progression between Holly and Michael, Michael is still with Jan but you can tell, seriously everyone can tell, that they need to be together. Even Jim says so in one of the talking heads. We have Dwight and Angela having secret meetings even though she is marring Andy, giving him difficult tasks for the wedding like, “Getting married in a 1000 year church in America,” but part way through the episode she shows that she feels bad that he is working so hard. Oh and finally the big thing that I bet gets everyone excited, Jim proposed to Pam, and it was great. That is all i am going to say about that. This season is going to be fantastic. Better than Fantastic.

Friday September 26 and Saturday September 27

Ahh the two graveyard prime-time nights. Not many shows make it on this day so there really is nothing to watch. Saturday Night Live was pretty good. Tina Fey returned as Palin and was on par. I noticed that the two featured player, Bobby and Casey, are always featured together. And this episode had that extra Kenan that we have been asking for. No digital short though, and that was a disappointment. But I only saw Andy twice in the whole show. SNL has been doing a fantastic job on politics this season and any season. That is one of the main reasons to watch the show.

Well that is it. Tonight is animation night on Fox and Desperate Housewives will be on as well. Little Britain USA premieres as well and i need to look up when it does come on because I am excited to see how well it moves to these shores. Tell Next time

As Premieres Continue...

We are only at the beginning of premiere season. Many shows have already just started or come back, such as House and other shows on Fox, but there is still a ton to look out for. We will get to those as they come but this week, what have i missed. Well as i had missed House on Tuesday, I did catch up on it on Thursday.

house

This season of House has shown greatness already. This first case, House took the case but did not mess with it till the end of the episode. It had strong willed women, mystery, and friendship. Ah what great things. Well maybe two out of the three. Which ones am i talking about. Never will tell. But back to the show. House does not look like it is going to end soon. Hugh Laurie is the highest paid actor on television making 400 thousand dollars an episode and it has been renewed for the next few seasons. This episode shows that they are not out of ideas yet. Has the show switched focuses though? In the beginning the show was focused on the patients and the mysterious problems that hurt them with a small focus on the characters. Now that has been turned around in the first episode. In this episode Wilson has decided to leave after the occurrences of the season finale. The audience can tell that House wants him to stay, but cannot tell him how he wants him to go. Can House ever do that? Being House, no he can not. It is that difficult to tell a friend how much they actually mean to him. This episode also shows 13 trying to prove how strong she is and to make something for herself. She feels as if her time is running out. Check out the episode if you have the chance. In the meantime though tonight is the Emmys and I am eager to see who wins this year due to the writter strike last season.

Tuesday Night Premiere

Wow a lot of posts lately. It is fun is it not. Well tonight was the premiere of House and I had to work so i did not get to see any of it. I will have to catch it tomorrow at some point unless i do not have any time. Well that was it for that. Nothing much else here. I could tell you more once i see it. The season finale did not leave any questions unanswered except if 13 is bi or not. Well the great thing about that is that this season can start off new. New chemistry between characters, new ideas, new sarcasm, Same old House though. I cannot wait to watch it though. So Radio Show tomorrow Tune in if you care to listen. But hoorah premieres!!
