“Becky” - Be Your Own Pet

In the past year, two of my favorite bands had decided to call it quits. Back in August, Be Your Own Pet decided to go their separate ways once they finish the United Kingdom tour that month. Now there is no reason for their break-up but what can be done. Nothing really. The track I posted, “Becky,” came from the Get Damaged EP along with “Black Hole” and “Blow Yr Mind.” Originally they were supposed to be included in their 2008 album Get Awkward but due to these songs being labeled as too violent, they were removed. Now sure “Becky” speaks of knives and kicking of asses but these were the types of lyrics I had expected from Be Your Own Pet. They were a band that I felt had no limits could be the modern day badasses from Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! I was really hoping to see at least a few more albums from this band but all we can do is wait and see what comes from this.

In June of 2008, the lead guitarist of The Long Blondes, Dorian Cox, suffered a stroke paralyzing the right half of his body. At the age of 27 this came as a shock. Who would have thought someone at that age could suffer a stroke. The Long Blondes were formed back in 2004 and have released two albums since. Someone to Drive You Home in 2006 and “Couples” in 2008. It was announced in October that due to Cox’s stroke and how he can no longer play guitar, The Long Blondes would be splitting. Dorian Cox is hopeful though. With two hours a week of physiotherapy, Cox is on his way to a full recovery. It is not known when this full recovery will occur but hopefully quickly.

The rest of the band will continue in music but away from The Long Blondes. Lead singer Kate Jackson has announced a solo album has released a song with the 1990’s titled, “Kickstrasse.”
