Glendora- Rilo Kiley

So for favorites week at WUSC i decided to play the band that sparked my love in music. Rilo Kiley. It began that summer when i had my first job, when i started liberating myself from my parents. Sure i was using their car but hey it got me from a to b and is still working to this day. Well during that time i was watching a lot of late night television. Well that is when “Portions for Foxes” premiered before my eyes. From there their fourth CD was mine and the soundtrack from home to work and back again. There was an entire world of music that i discovered after that moment. Rilo Kiley opened my eyes to The Good Life, Little Barrie, Metric, and other fantastic artists. Here is the Rilo Kiley play list i worked on, cutting about 99 Rilo Kiley Songs down to 24. Took a while but I believe it worked out.

The Show for October 29th

Yesterday’s show was fantastic. It all worked out for the best. The only problem was i forgot to email myself the play-list. But lucky for all of us it was all Halloween music. I received multiple calls about this first band, even after the song was over i still had calls about it. The song was “I Like Turtles” by Zombies! Organize!!.

Zombies Organize

Zombies! Organize!! i found out about in an issue of Blender last month. This article had discussed how many underground bands were going the route of the geek. Zombies! Organize!! was one of these bands. All they sing about is zombies and robots and other fantastic beings. There are even Super Mario Brother references in their songs as well. Amazing. The song that was played over the air yesterday takes the viral video with the zombie kid at the fair and remixes it. Zombies are more than just brain eating beings with this song, they love cats and bunnies and turtles among other things. Zombies! Organize!! show the lighter side of zombies and how they are not just the one dimensional beings that they have become.

Now along with the awesome comes the not so awesome. Who wants punk covers of the Rocky Horror Picture Show? Not I. I ended up playing from a CD yesterday titled, The Rocky Horror Punk Show. Not what i wanted to hear. Over the past week and a half, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become very personal. The songs have become a part of me and the movie will always be in my heart. These punk covers though… spoils part of my fun. It will not effect me. I have already forgotten about it.

So besides the music, I had DJ Buddy System and DJ GITDATMONEY, blog located here, help me try out candy for Halloween. It was Yum. We started off with Domo bracelets from Target. These bracelets were delicious and had three different colors of candy. It was as DJ Buddy System said, smarties on a bracelet. Afterwards came a Monster Marshmallow Burger (had a much cooler name just cannot remember) that Buddy System tried. From his taste test and my bite, it was one of the better sweets of the show. It had chocolate chips as the eyes and nose and looked like a pumpkin. It is the same as the Krabby Patties that Nickelodeon sells. But along with the good candy came the bad candy. Sour Punch Straws are a favorite of many candy lovers. Well from the same people who brought you Sour Punch Straws, comes the same thing but with an extra spice. Spicy Punch Straws Tamarind. Wow DJ Buddy System and DJ GITDATMONEY agree that adding an unknown flavor to an already amazing candy can fail. Fail big time. With spices filling our mouths and throats we were all coughing and feeling the burn. We did not go back for another piece.

So that was the Halloween show filled with a Halloween candy, a Halloween Bad Joke, and an interesting animal fact.

Bad Joke

  • How did the ghost patch his sheet?
  • With a pumpkin patch.

Random animal fact.

A frightened dog puts it’s tail between it’s legs because it covers the scent glands in the anal area. Since the anal glands carry personal scents that identify individual dogs, the tail-between the-legs behavior is the canine equivalent of insecure humans hiding their faces.
