Obscene Binary Vs. The World
It has been a long summer so far filled with monotonous work, late night television, and good times with the pet bird. There is one thing that makes the summer go by quicker and that is the local library. There I have caught up on classic movies, community events, and started reading Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life.

From the cover, I would not be interested in a comic like this. But after hearing that Edgar Wright, famous for writing and directing Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, was doing a film version of the comic, I though i would check it out. It is a surprising story of romance, action, and comedy. Plus it all takes place in Canada. With its Manga style publishing, this would usually be a book that i would pass by, but instead I took the chance and checked it out of the library. Who would know it was an adventure about a guy in his 20’s fighting a girl’s seven evil ex-boyfriends just to date her.

After reading the first volume, I became hooked, knowing if I had the chance I could land a role in the movie. The movie stars Michael Cera as the hero, Scott Pilgrim, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as his love interest, Ramona V. Flowers. I have high hopes for the movie, maybe movies, except for the casting of Michael Cera. Every role I have seen him play have been the same person. The socially awkward guy… Instead will we see Cera portraying a new type of role? A guy with confidence, a guy who never looses a fight. I can only hope.

The cast includes (L to R): Michael Cera as the titular Scott Pilgrim, Chris Evans as the second evil-ex Lucas Lee, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Anna Kendrick as Scott’s sister Stacey Pilgrim, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, a mystery guest (though almost certainly Jason Schwartzmann) as the final of Ramona’s seven ex-boyfriends, and Satya Bhabh and the first ex-bf Matthew Patel. Besides the one casting flaw, maybe, the rest of the cast looks great.
I am enjoying how Edgar Wright is keeping us up to date with filming. At the official website, they are up to Episode Eight which is all about the music. The cool thing about the comic, all the locations in the book are real locations, meaning the actual locations in the book is where the filming is being done. It is also supposed to contain a mix of real people and hand drawn animation. Check it out and get excited with me for Scott Pilgrim.
One last note, the band Metric is providing tracks for the soundtrack, which should also be phenomenal.
