What Are My Top Music Video of the Year 2008?

Ah it is Monday and I am off of work and School is over, I am getting so bored waiting for the grades to come in. The anticipation is really getting to me. I hate waiting, but what is the best cure for being impatient. Viewing Music Videos.

Unlike my list for the top Albums of 2008, my top Music Videos of 2008 have no order. They just come as I see them. How long is the list? I have not a clue. The way I decide which videos are my favorite, I look at creativity and music. Creativity is my main focus though. In the past I enjoyed videos that kept my attention by being eccentric and showing beauty.

Let us start.

For The Awesome:
Golden Age - TV on the Radio

For The Artistic:
Soon We’ll Be Found - Sia

For The Future:
The Youth - MGMT

For The Posh:
Guilt - The Long Blondes

For The Nostalgic:
Kim & Jessie - M83

For The Broken Hearted:

Who’s Gunna Save My Soul Now? - Gnarls Barkley

For The Bollywood Enthusiast:
Carmensita - Devendra Banhart

For The Lovers:
Ladies of the World - Flight of the Conchords

For The Lonely Zombie:
Crimewave (Crystal Castles vs. Heath) – Crystal Castles

For The One Up To A Challenge:
Strange Times – The Black Keys

For Last Spot At A Deadline:
Paper Planes – I’m From Barcelona

What Galaxy are they From?

Well I know MGMT has been out for a while now but last week their new music video for “The Youth” came out and it was cosmic. Well sorta. Nothing really space just nifty out of this world outfits. We have here four kids doing spectacular dance moves for no reason at all but to be hip. One of the kids does gets slap only because he is better than the rest and then the others happen to follow. It is sort of a savior kind of video. You have this kid get slapped by one girl but then when the other comes in for a hit, he is triumphant. It is like a Flash Gordon moment. He is the outsider to save us all. Could there be a continuation?

Now this happens to be the third video since this blog has started that has been directed by Eric Warehelm. I do not choose for this to happen it just does. But they are good humorous videos. See first was “Polite Dance Song” by The Bird and the Bee, which was serious but quirky. Then there was “You Don’t Know Me” by Ben Folds, who Eric directed  and acted in with the help of Tim Heidecker making is just as outlandish as the items on their program. Now there is “The Youth” by MGMT which does not match any of the styles of the previous two. This video ends up being very serious but odd at the same time. It sticks out compared to the rest. I did not have a clue that Eric Warehelm directed this video. There was no indication he had anything to do with this and that is what makes it fantastic. It was something you would not expect from this funny man.

There is one other thing i have to add. This video is very shiny. It is full of sequins and glitter shimmering and shining all over the place. It practically rains glitter in one scene. It attracts everyone’s attention. This MGMT video may make it in my top videos of the year, coming towards the end of the year.
