Beck - “Suzanne” (Leonard Cohen cover)

It has been a while. A really long time since i have written something new. Well since the last original post. But I am back, new school year, new things. So let us do something quick and easy before the premiere season starts.

As I said in an earlier post, Beck has been working on something called Beck’s Record Club. Basically Beck is covering entire albums. Recently, Beck just finished covering The Velvet Underground’s The Velvet Underground and Nico album, covering all 13 of their songs. Now, Beck has moved on from The Velvet Underground and has decided to take on Leonard Cohen’s Songs of Leonard Cohen. The video above, is Beck’s version of “Suzanne”. But with “Suzanne”, Beck could not do it alone. Beck called in MGMT, Devendra Banhart, Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother, and Bikini Sharpo of Little Joy. So yes this cover is very different than the original. Have a listen or two.

Speaking of covers, Obscene Binary is now just a blog since the radio show has now become The Carolina Cover-up. Playing various covers on Thursday nights 10 to Midnight on WUSC.

Beck - “Sunday Morning” (Velvet Underground cover)

I am sleepy, low on battery, and it has been a long day so I will keep this short. Beck has been one of those artists I listen to on and off. Lately he has kicked off his Record Club. Beck’s Record Club is Beck gathering various people together for only a day and reworking and restructuring an album. For this expiriment, Beck and his group chose to do The Velvet Underground’s album, The Velvet Underground and Nico. As of now, only Beck’s cover of “Sunday Morning” has been released but they plan on releasing others in the future. Sounds good so far.

Oh there is a video as well.
