Chairlift - “Darling Nikki” (Prince Cover) (Removed at Spin’s request)
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Purple Rain, Spin Magazine is giving away a free copy of Purpleish Rain, a series of Prince covers from the film. This was brilliantly done and is filled with many fantastic artists. The posted audio clip is Chairlift’s cover of “Darling Nikki.” Other artist included in this compilation include Of Montreal, Fol Chen, and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings.
Fun musical history fact:
- Five years after the release of Purple Rain, Prince was asked to provide the soundtrack for the 1989 film Batman. Prince was hired to write the songs pertaining to the Joker while Michael Jackson was asked to write the romantic songs. Danny Elfman was going to combine the two together. In the end, Jackson turned it down due to concert commitments.
